My Horse For Sale Interview

By Interviewer at 05/24/07 01:04

Name of your website?

My Horse For Sale

Your name?

Jan

Your Location (city, etc)

Blanchard

When did you start your website and why?

1 started planning the site in 2002. MyHorseForSale.com has been up a little over a year. In 2002 my friend Sarah passed away after a short battle with cancer. She had spent most of her life raising and training horses. Horses were more than a way to make a living; they were her passion for life. Sarah had many friends who loved her and helped her thru her battle with cancer. I was just one of many who offered to help in anyway I could. It started out rather simply, just a request to take care of her horses till she got out of the hospital. When we learned that she would not be leaving the hospital, Sarah was faced with making decisions on where each horse would go. She gave a few horses to close friends. She also wanted a permanent home for her 20-year-old Stallion "Sleepy", and to sell or find homes for the rest of her horses. Everyone wanted you to mail a video. So, I started a website that had quality video with up to 10 pictures.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

MyHorseForSale.com advertises horses for sale and stallions at stud. MyHorseForSale.com also provides clients with new and unique ways to advertise their horses. Such as the MyHorseForSale.com i-Tunes podcast, E-Mail newsletter and the MyHorseForSale.com Internet cafe'.

Hermit Crab Food Trials Interview

By Interviewer at 05/23/07 16:50
Name of your website?

Hermit Crab Food Trials

Your name?

Jedi_sena

Your Location (city, etc)

Colorado

When did you start your website and why?

I have been a hermit crab enthusiast since 2005. I learned much about land hermit crabs including their need for a varied diet. Being on a tight budget and understanding that leaf litter makes up a large portion of their wild diet I began testing out items that could be easily picked in my own backyard. My fellow crabbers listened with interest and I posted my results on several hermit crab forums. But as more momentum built up, I found it exhausting to post the same information on multiple sites and decided that a blog would be a nice way to track my progress.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

My site documents my own food trials conducted on non-human grade food sources with a concentrated effort on Colorado and Washington plant life as well as my notes for product development of Crabotanicals brand all-natural hermit crab food featuring wild, hand-harvested items.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

I am not very computer literate and I only have access to the internet at work, which has meant that I have had to do late-night sessions posting information and submitting the site to search engines.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The subject matter is enthralling! I really love combining my love of hermit crabs and my interest in local flora.

What was your biggest mistake?

Not starting sooner. For a while I held back because my computer skills were weak, but I've learned to navigate through the site "dashboard" fairly well and feel less limited now.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do. I have a couple of ladies that have permission to post, but they've shown little interest in contributing to the blog at this point, but help out in many other ways.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

Well, the blog has given birth to the business. After sharing my findings with the hermit crab community, many expressed frustration because they felt unequal to the task of positively identifying specific plants or lived in areas that are too polluted to harvest safe specimens free of pesticides and commercial fertilizers. Many started requesting that I share items to which I had access. There were already established vendors selling preservative-free, human grade foods for hermit crabs, so I approached them with the idea for products which they embraced with much enthusiasm. So, I became a manufacturer!

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

In Colorado, there is not a lot of enthusiasm for hermit crabs and starting this business without the internet would be ludicrous. There will always be a market for "bouquet" businesses as long as the internet exists.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Too computer illiterate to know what that is, but optimizing search features sounds win-win to me.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Definitely helped draw people interested in my nearly unknown industry.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

The hermit crab forums like HermitCrabAssociation, TheCrabStreetJournal, HermitCrabAddiction, & MyHermitCrab. I post advice often and my blog appears as part of my signature on each post. Also, because I was already an established member of the forums beforehand, the management there was very helpful (instead of resentful). They encouraged me and endorsed my products on the site.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Having the blog as part of my everyday email signature. Hardly any of the people that I communicate regularly with via email care much about crabs or my business. If it were a more popular subject matter, this would be a better method.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

More free hosting and feeds. And what happened to the days when you could get free internet access?!?!

Caring For Your Cat Interview

By Interviewer at 05/15/07 14:59
Name of your website?

Caring For Your Cat

Your name?

Laura

Your Location (city, etc)

Oxford

When did you start your website and why?

I started this website 2 years ago really only as a hobby. I'm a cat fanatic and thought I could use my spare time to write a handy online cat care brochure, since then its grown and grown

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Basically an online care site for cat owners. Nice and easy to follow. I try to add information as often as I can

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

For me, the actually web design element of it, I'm not that great at this. I could talk about cats for hours, but all this html and css business, well I'm still struggling with that.

What has been the easist past of operating your website?

Writing about cats, when your interested in something the words just seem to come naturally!!

What was your biggest mistake?

Not thinking about the layout before hand, sometimes the pages are a complete jumble and I can't find what I was looking for. I've re-arranged the site 3 times since I started it!

Who maintains your website and why?

Me. Why? Because I don't have anyone else to. The money the advertising makes just about covers the hosting, so theres nothing left to get anyone else to update it. Plus where's the fun in that, it's my little hobby - I wouldn't want to share it.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

Well it's not my business just a hobby, so this doesn't really apply.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Ecommerce is great, I do most of my shopping online, you can get some great bargins. As for the future of the internet, who knows. Theres plenty of SPAM sites these days, once they're gone, I expect the internet will be even better

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Ohhh, not too sure about this, only brought my first book on this the other day. If it gets your good visitors and they find what they're looking for then great, but it could be a little easier!

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search engines are a good thing, most of my visitors are from search engines, but sometimes its hit and miss.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Linking with other cat websites, normally just an email does the trick and the other owners are willing to add my site.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Article distribution. To be honest I wasn't very good at this, I didn't like giving away decent information that could be on my site. So I only did it a few times.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Less SPAM, theres soooo much. People phish your email address from your website and then thats it, your mail box is full of SPAM. And less of those websites with no content, just keywords, that really annoys me.

Texas Horse Training Interview

By Interviewer at 05/11/07 20:53
Name of your website? (NOT url, http://etc)

Texas Horse Training

Your name?

Shelly Cooper

Your Location (city, etc)

Valley Mills, Texas. 25 minutes west of Waco.

When did you start your website and why?

Been riding horses all my life, training them since a teenager and giving riding instruction for 10 yrs now. Did Children's Horse Camps on a 1000 acre ranch that didn't belong to me until the owner's decided there were too many people to deal with because of the website I built for them. SOO I've been on my own since 2002 and don't have my own place to do these things in the same fashion. Love horses and kids and teaching others about horses so I'm still doing it I'm just doing it as a mobile trainer and instructor until some good looking, young, rich, stupid guy comes along that doesn't want to get married but is willing to buy my ranch for me. ; )~ Seriously thought about building a separate website like some of those people do so I can get real sympathetic suckers to donate money to my personal cause.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Website questions people about what their horse is doing and how they themselves are doing in an effort to have them take a closer look at their situation. It describes some basics about my training style, methods and philosophy and even gives a little insight into my quirks about people who pamper 55 million year old, 1000 lbs of muscle who really want to be in the hospital ER. It gives details about prices, contact information. I try to always be professional, customize my phrases and wording to each customers' personality in such a way that they continue to use me as their trainer, unlike other trainers do.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Getting the money to purchase the server space and domain because of no property to do the training on and no money to do other advertising I've had to take odd and end jobs elsewhere doing whatever to get the funds.

What has been the easist past of operating your website?

I can design it, build it, tweek it, edit it, maximize it, promote it, find the free stuff to add to it and get results.

What was your biggest mistake?

Getting married, I love my kids and I got divorced but I might have my own 1000 acres by now if I hadn't done that.

Who maintains your website and why?

Me, me, me. First of all, because I can. Second, because I hate being limited by webdesigners and servers on space, style or advertising. Originally built a website for the ranch I was working because it helped both of us. Now I'm doing it for myself.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

The website I built for the ranch I worked on was incredible. I am extremely proud of what I did there. I had people contacting and visiting me from around the world. I had children come to my kid's camp from as far away as California and we ALL had a blast!

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I really like the net, it's starting to get crowded though and I have to do a little more to keep up. Ecommerce is great for those who have money, bank accounts and credit cards. I hate credit cards and don't agree with all the money the bank charges for those pittly little things. I've wanted to buy off the net but don't use a bank account and don't have credit cards so that's a draw back. I'm a little old fashioned.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Hmm, well... I don't like the limitations on meta tags.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

They help if they are free listings but I don't like paid listings. Big businesses that charge for these things cause the little man in businesses to have trouble or go out of business.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Free URL listings with different search engines and directories.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Paid advertising because of the limitations.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Somebody KILL microsoft and bill gates! If terrorists had brains...

Do I build websites for others?

YES! Pi In The Sky Ranch and will do others if requested but only for pay!

What is your website address?

Texas Horse Training
