Bye-Bye Rodney Rabbit

By Veteran-arian at 07/06/08 22:57

About two months ago, I featured here my one and only rabbit, Rodney. Unfortunately, this morning he died. The cause of his death is still not clear, but I have this feeling that my grumpy neighbor poisoned my lovely pet, out of insecurity.

I have this gut feeling that this neighbor of mine, who recently keep on comparing his rabbit to my Rodney, caused his death. My neighbor is such a wuss that all the people in my neighborhood fear of letting their dogs and cats stray in front of his house because he usually throw hot water on them. He thinks all his pets are the best ones and other pets from other owners are nothing but trash.

Recently he came into my house asking if I could give him a referral to the pet store where I get my pet foods that gives me discounts. I called my friend who owned the store and told him to give my neighbor a discount. From then on, he would visit me every morning for a sarcastic way of thanking. He would bring his rabbit and dogs in my yard and let the animals play with each other. He seems so nice to me, or maybe he was trying to make an impression of being nice.

This morning he came into my house and I offered him coffee and pancakes. I then received a call from my mom who at that time was on the road to visit me. So I told my neighbor that he can stay while I'm away to buy some stuffs to cook for my mother's arrival.

After about more than hour, I came back only to find Rodney lying on the ground, dead. There is no sign of injuries or any physical contact that resulted to his death, but there's a smell in him that I do not recognized. I mean, my rabbit regularly takes a bath and I know how he smells, but there's really a smell in him I don't like.

My neighbor was still there, telling me Rodney suddenly died. I don't know what really happened, and I don't want to accuse him of something I have no proof. Since I had to time to bring him to the animal hospital for examination, I just buried him in my backyard. Maybe tomorrow or within this week, I will exhume him and relocate him to the animal cemetery together with Prince. Two of my favorite pets have left me, and I don't want any of the other to follow.

Rodney is 1 year and 2 months old. He is such a joy to my life, and he will be missed.
