Tabaxi Pixie Bob Cattery Interview

By Interviewer at 09/24/09 14:13

Name of your website?

Tabaxi Pixie Bob Cattery

Your name?

Carrie Smith

Your Location (city, etc)

Milwaukee

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We're Pixie Bob breeders who are also here to support current and prospective Pixie Bob owners, as well as those who breed or are interested in breeding Pixie Bobs. We're committed to helping rescue and re-home Pixie Bobs who need homes and will list Pixie Bobs for adoption on our site for free. We've tried hard to provide excellent, factual information about Pixie Bobs and have included discussion forums to improve communication between owners, breeders, and anyone who is interested in Pixie Bobs.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Necessity, really. So many sites that have information about Pixie Bobs either have wrong information or are filled with hype about their "legendary" ancestry, even though DNA testing has proven that Pixie Bobs are not descended from Bobcats. So, we've spent time scouring online and offline resources and references to assemble as much information as we can about Pixie Bobs. Next, we make it publicly accessible from one resource and we do our best to make it easy to understand. Naturally, this is an on-going process and we are always striving to add more information to our site.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We needed a name for our cattery, as well. My husband and I played Dungeons and Dragons when we were teenagers and recalled that "Tabaxi" was a race of cat-people from that game. So, that's how we decided on the name.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

First and foremost, a wealth of quality information. Second, we respond to every email we get through the site - every one. In our experience, and from talking with people who have contacted us after trying to contact other breeders, many breeders don't bother replying to e-mail unless the writer wishes to purchase a kitten from them. We don't care why you write us. We will reply to you. Third, our site is always up-to-date and the date each individual page was last updated is clearly displayed. Our site is easier to navigate and easier to read than most, as well.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

My husband does the web design, which he enjoys thoroughly and he is really quite obsessive about it. That makes the time invested in the site worthwhile no matter what happens. Since my husband does the design, the site itself hasn't cost us anything beyond our hosting fees. As for success, we've had many inquiries from people who need help caring for a cat they've rescued, wondering if they've found a Pixie Bob (or not), and just generally trying to get educated about caring for a cat and about the Pixie Bob breed, itself. So, in our opinion, knowing that we've helped people and helped cats in need makes the site an over-whelming success.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Absolutely! We would love nothing more than to see our forums fill up with lively discussion of Pixie Bobs in particular, but also other pets whether those pets are cats, dogs, snakes or whatever. Communication and collaboration can only improve the lives of pets and their owners, educate pet buyers and thereby improve their experiences, improve the quality of the breed, and combat kitten and puppy mills.

What is your website address?
