Julie
Your Location (city, etc)
New York City
Please give us a short summary of your website?
Worlds first Punk Rock Boutique for Dogs. Specializing in Punk Rock dog clothes, collars, beds, toys and accessories.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
My 2 chinese crested dogs.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
May 2007, The Punky Pup
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Came up with it in 5 minutes while applying for a business license.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The Punky Pup is a store like no other. We cater to people and their pets that live the rock n'roll life. A very male friendly store, no girly stuff.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our eventual goal is to take over the world. But we would first like to start out with one small little storefront in our hometown of NYC.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Being our first year in business, our credit cards are maxed and every penny earned goes directly back in to the store. We didn't plan on getting rich in our first year. All the late nights up tweaking the site and all the money invested is totally worth it. Our sales alone have been way above our expectations.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Add a lot more products. And hire a PR firm. Other than that, its exactly what I wanted.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes and Bring it on!! I'm ready.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
SEO is the biggest headache. No unexpected costs so far.
What has been your biggest challenge?
SEO.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Lots of SEO.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Wasn't expecting to have to do so much SEO!!
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We've been open for 9 months, and plan on keeping it up until I'm really old and can't see the computer screen anymore. I have way too much time and money invested to ever give it up.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In 5 years we will hopefully have 2 brick and mortar stores. The first in NYC and the 2nd in LA. And still offering the coolest pet gear to the whole world via our website.
