Pekingese-Dogs.net Interview

By Interviewer at 03/26/08 01:44

Name of your website?

Pekingese-Dogs.net

Your name?

Eugene

Your Location (city, etc)

NY

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A freely available resource of information on the Pekingese dog breed.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The need to provide quality information on the breed.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was a retail business for collector supplies, which I launched about 5 years ago.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It's pretty straight forward.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Most dog sites are amalgams of data on many different breeds, which makes the information they offer on any single breed rather diluted and useless. Pekingese-Dogs.net is solely geared towards the Pekingese breed.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The eventual goal is to offer comprehensive information for Pekingese dog owners

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It is still too early to accurately measure the success of the website. I'm currently working on building awareness, so the investment stands alone at this point.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Probably integrate a vast community platform so Peke owners around the world can commune and collaborate, and then of course market the heck out of it.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Sure.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

I'm learning server-side programming as I build the site -- certainly a headache.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Publicity is hard to get.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

So far, collaborating with websites with like interests.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

The depth of web programming exceeds what I expected. Running a site is also kind of expensive.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

A month or two. It will be there forever.

What is your website address?
