Caring For Your Cat Interview

By Interviewer at 05/15/07 14:59
Name of your website?

Caring For Your Cat

Your name?

Laura

Your Location (city, etc)

Oxford

When did you start your website and why?

I started this website 2 years ago really only as a hobby. I'm a cat fanatic and thought I could use my spare time to write a handy online cat care brochure, since then its grown and grown

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Basically an online care site for cat owners. Nice and easy to follow. I try to add information as often as I can

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

For me, the actually web design element of it, I'm not that great at this. I could talk about cats for hours, but all this html and css business, well I'm still struggling with that.

What has been the easist past of operating your website?

Writing about cats, when your interested in something the words just seem to come naturally!!

What was your biggest mistake?

Not thinking about the layout before hand, sometimes the pages are a complete jumble and I can't find what I was looking for. I've re-arranged the site 3 times since I started it!

Who maintains your website and why?

Me. Why? Because I don't have anyone else to. The money the advertising makes just about covers the hosting, so theres nothing left to get anyone else to update it. Plus where's the fun in that, it's my little hobby - I wouldn't want to share it.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

Well it's not my business just a hobby, so this doesn't really apply.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Ecommerce is great, I do most of my shopping online, you can get some great bargins. As for the future of the internet, who knows. Theres plenty of SPAM sites these days, once they're gone, I expect the internet will be even better

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Ohhh, not too sure about this, only brought my first book on this the other day. If it gets your good visitors and they find what they're looking for then great, but it could be a little easier!

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search engines are a good thing, most of my visitors are from search engines, but sometimes its hit and miss.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Linking with other cat websites, normally just an email does the trick and the other owners are willing to add my site.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Article distribution. To be honest I wasn't very good at this, I didn't like giving away decent information that could be on my site. So I only did it a few times.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Less SPAM, theres soooo much. People phish your email address from your website and then thats it, your mail box is full of SPAM. And less of those websites with no content, just keywords, that really annoys me.

This is either the ulgiest lamb or the ugliest dog, I am not sure which

By Kelly at 05/14/07 13:08
, Dogs: Now I lay me down to sleep....
Maggie is taking a nap with her favorite friend. You would think they were of the same breed since she hugs her lamb like a baby as she sleeps.

She is the greatest dog in the world, except when you wake her out of a sound sleep by stealing her lamb. Talk about getting ugly!

I wonder if this is why someone made up the phrase...Let sleeping dogs lie?

PET BLOG: Tid-bits in PET PROBLEMS

By lilyruth at 05/13/07 22:46
Here ae some tid-bits that I want to share with you that I've tried myself and have proven to be very useful. You know how when your pets goes outside and get their fur full of burrs how hard they are to get out!

Well just put a dab of all vegetable shortening over the burr and this helps the sticker slide out of the fur easily. Also another tid-bit is if you want to keep your dogs and cats out of your flowerbeds or vegetable garden, sprinkle the garden beds with McCormick Black Pepper.

Dogs and cats have a keen sense of smell, and the scent of pepper repels them. AND to prevent cats from scratching wood furniture, by rubbing the furniture with a cloth dampened with Tabasco Pepper Sauce. The faint smell of the spicy sauce repels cats.

And the last tid-bit I have for you is If you clip your dog's toenails too short and it starts bleeding, pack cornstarch into the nail bed to clot the blood.

If you all are interested I have more tid-bits like this on my blog at PET BLOG: Tid-bits in PET PROBLEMS

Everyone is welcomed and their Pets too.

Aromatherapy and Cats

By Wilbur Corncob at 05/13/07 09:04
Aromatherapy is Bad For Cats this blog will scare you if you own cats and like aromatherapy: "Cats just don't have the ability to metabolize essential oils."

The symptoms include, "vomiting, dizziness, clumsiness, lack of appetite and lack of energy."

They also recommend you stay away from flea and other colars that are laced with "'all natural' essential oils". I wonder if the artifical scents are any better!

Dog Training; Rewards

By Wilbur Corncob at 05/13/07 08:58
Obedience Training Your Dog - the Importance of Rewards offers some good tips on obedience training for dogs.

Make sure you are the one training your dog and not the other way around. "Always be sure to provide plenty of praise, treats, toys and other rewards when the dog does what is expected of him," and like people "dogs learn best by positive reinforcement."

A Cute Pet Squirrel

By Wilbur Corncob at 05/12/07 18:44
[404 Check: was link to http:/ / www. forpetsandpetlovers. com/ lets -clear -the -air -about -squirrels -shall -we -pets -or -not -pets/ , anchor: SQUIRRELS: Let's clear the air about squirrels, shall we? Pets or not pets?] If you can get past all the ads and crap at the top of their blog they have some straight sense about squirrels for pets:squirrels are creatures of the wild, best not kept as pets.

Don't for get it.

On the other hand, maybe if you want such a cute little squirrel go ahead. You'll soon find out what "ugly" might be a better word when you find your furniture and insides of your walls all chewed up.

Now don't misunderstand me, I am not suggesting by any means that squirrels are ugly. They are great creatures to watch in the wild. When you bring them in your house you are being the ugly one!
