Rodney Rabbit

By Veteran-arian at 04/19/08 14:07

, Rabbits: Rodney Rabbit What joy pets bring! I cannot imagine my life living without any pets. One of my pets that constantly makes me happy is Rodney, my beloved rabbit.

Rodney is a French Lop, a giant variety. We have a lot of rabbits when I was still a kid but only a few survived that I lived with while I was growing.

When I move to my own home in the city, I brought the then 2 month old Rodney. He was so cute when he was still young and until now he still has the charm. He gets along well with my chinchillas, cats and dogs.

Now that Rodney is already 11 months old, he is still as cute as ever. He now weighs 6.3 Kg. Pretty heavy. His fur are as soft as cotton. I regularly trim it to keep him good looking.

I never tried to look for a female counterpart for Rodney for I believe he is happy being single haha. My friend tried to mate him with her female bunny but my Rodney is too picky when it comes to girls. I think he believes he is a chinchilla haha because my chinchillas used to sleep beside him, they eat together and they play together that I myself sometimes mistakes them to be relatives haha.

My friend said Rodney will be lonely and depress without a companion but I do not see any signs of those. I only see how happy he is playing with my other resident pets.

Every morning I see to it that my pets will be exposed to early sunlight. Whenever I open the door, Rodney will compete running outside with my dogs in the garden. They roam around with the chinchillas and play endlessly until I put their food, that's the only time they will stop playing.

Traveling With Your Cat

By Veteran-arian at 04/15/08 05:51
, Cats: Pifa and Cera I travel a lot. I love traveling especially when I have my pets with me. Because my dogs are all big, I don't usually bring them. My cats and chinchillas are the lucky ones who can go travel with their master, and sometimes my rabbit too. Mostly its the cats that are taken along because I can let them walk by themselves when we arrived to our destination unlike the chinchillas that will jump anywhere they want and I'm afraid that they will get lost.

Pifa is a Honeybear cat and Cera is an American Bobtail. They are very trained and they follow my orders. They are used to traveling with me. But before that, they undergo the feeling of anxiety. So what I did was I trained them first inside the car that is not running. I let them get familiarize with the environment inside the vehicle. We played, I talked to them and then I gave them treats. The next day I took them with me for a short ride. I can still sense that they are uncomfortable with a moving car, specially that are big cats, bigger than already. They cannot stand while the car is moving.

I took them again the next day for another ride and I can see the improvement in them. They are now sitting properly on the car seats. They are already jumping from the back to the front seat. And I can feel that they are enjoying the ride. They are very curious of the world outside, they are paying too much attention on the door glass looking outside wondering what are those big mountains on the background of big buildings.

I also found out that my Cera is pregnant. Soon she will give birth to a baby cat and both of them will become parents. I am now studying the ways to take care the new born cats. And I hope I can do that pretty well so their baby will grow properly just like them.

Awie the Mastiff Pup

By Veteran-arian at 04/13/08 11:35
, Dogs: Awie the Mastiff Pup I have always been an animal lover. Since I was a kid I grew up with a lot of pets roaming around our house. I used to sleep with them too.

My family owns 6 dogs before, a set of 6 love birds, 2 parrots, 2 cats, 3 chinchillas and a rabbit. If I would count the animals on our farm, then I have 12 horses, more than a hundred cows, about 40 pigs and countless chickens.

But since me and my siblings moved into the city to study and work, the only pet we were able to bring are the chinchillas, 2 dogs with their new pup, the rabbit and the 2 cats.

I can say that having these pets of ours is probably the reason why me and my siblings are always on good terms. We all love our pets. We share the common likes when it comes to owning and caring for animals.

In particular, I love my mastiff dogs. My favorite is Awie, a mastiff pup that is less than a month. When she was born she already weighted 2.3 lbs. Her parents, both giant English mastiffs weighted 200-300 lbs. each. But I should say they are gentle giants. Despite of their enormous size, mastiffs are very gentle and very loving.

They would run to you when you come home, a thing that really takes my stress off. They are very playful and caring to their pups. They also love being cuddled and they are always game to be groomed. They hate being dirty. I am now practicing my baby pup and I groomed her always so that she will be used to it even if she is already a grown up.
