Name of your website?Lane's Hairless Guinea Pigs
Your name?
Lane Cooper
Your Location (city, etc)
Jacksonville, Arkansas
Please give us a short summary of your website?
We offer beautiful healthy Skinny Pigs. We can deliver or ship at your expense. We've been working with guinea pigs for over 10 years and it is our goal to assist in improving the over all quality of life and health of the Skinny Pig.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Our passion for our animals. We wanted to be able to share the love and affection we share with our Skinny Pigs with others.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is our first official website.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Well, Lane is the owner of the business so it seemed fitting.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We realize that breeding animals is not possible if done properly. We aren't in it for the money. Jennifer takes pride in the website and wants it to look top notch and Lane takes pride in the every day round the clock care of the guinea pigs. Our animals are bred not for colors, but for health and temperament. Our warranty exceeds anyone else's on the market.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To have happy satisfied customers all over the country and to be happy knowing that all of animals went to loving forever homes.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We spend more than we make, by far. But it's not the success in money that we are seeking. Although breaking even would be nice!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would expand our guinea pig room. We would offer multi level C&C cages instead of the single levels we have currently. We would spay or neuter every baby prior to delivery. We would invest money into researching the specific gene's of our Skinny Pigs. We'd have truck loads of Fresh Veggies and Hay brought in so they could have a field day every day!!!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Starting out we almost quit - learning how to properly raise Skinny Pigs and lesson the chances of sow/baby complications were difficult. Vet bills are quite costly, but expected.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting our success rate to over 90%.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth and search engines.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's better than we expected!
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
About 6 months - and for years and years to come!
What would you like to see change in the future regarding your business?
We would like to see the back yard breeding and accidental breeding stop. We'd love to see the numbers of guinea pigs (not just Skinny pigs) in rescues diminish. We'd like people who aren't experienced to stop thinking that an animal is disposable and that breeding to see the babies is cute. Breeding should only be done by professionals. Finding homes for animals is much harder than you think... We'd love to find a Vet who would do low cost spay / neuter so we could afford to get it done for all of the babies we produce.
