Please give us a short summary of your service?
We provide a solution to a dog owner's worst chore - dog waste removal. Dog waste is a universal problem but most people put "picking up the dog poop" at the bottom of their "to-do" list. Dog waste is not only unsightly but is smelly (not only to the owner but also the neighbors!), can potentially be contaminated with worms and other parasites that can infect and endanger the health of other pets and family members. Dog poop also attracts flies and rodents that love to feed on dog poop. If left unattended, it also pollutes our groundwater.
What inspired you to launch this business?
We love animals and have several pets of our own so it just seemed natural to work with animals in some capacity. We already volunteer at the local animal shelter and wanted to continue working with animals on a daily basis. We also saw the real conflict people have between loving their pets and not loving the poop piles they leave behind but that need to be dealt with. Oftentimes people have other things they would rather be doing, or are physically incapable of doing this unpleasant but necessary chore. That's were we step in (hopefully, not literally!). We take care of the dog owner's worst chore and give them back the freedom of time - time to do more of what they want to do.
When did you launch your website?
The website has been a work in progress for some months and is still being tweaked.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It was tough. We probably spent close to a month coming up with something that somewhat represents what we do and is catchy. Many of the names we would have chosen were already taken - there's only so many ways you can describe dog "poop"!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We love what we do and are passionate about providing excellent service. We become attached to our customers and their owners and it is very important to us that everyone be happy with our service. We say "Satisfaction Guaranteed" an we mean it. It's more than a job - it's a mission to provide a cleaner and safer environment one yard at a time. We also service apartment/condo complexes but our goal is still the same - making pets and their owners happy.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We will eventually open offices in other locations but our goal will be to still keep it "small" and friendly. We never want our customers to feel they are just "another" client. Everyone of them is important and will continue to receive the same individual and personalized service we have become known for.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Not sure we would. We are very happy with the way things are going.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes. Ours in really an information site so our growth would not affect it.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Ours is a growing industry. Most people have not heard of a "dog waste removal service" before so it's overcoming their lack of knowledge/info. Once they realize that it's no different to having a lawn or cleaning service they fully appreciate what we offer them - freedom from an unpleasant chore.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Making sure we show up in the search engines and google ads have also been successful.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's been very challenging as we are not very tech savvy but we've learned a lot - it's been an experience!
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We will continue to keep the site up as long as there is dog poop to scoop!
What would you like potential customers to know?
Most people don't realize the potential hazard of dog poop left to accumulate. It does smell and in Texas with the heat - boy, can it smell! It can be potentially hazardous and truly does take away from the enjoyment of your yard if you're afraid you're going to step into a doggy bomb at any moment. We give back the freedom of time and the use of yards - satisfaction guaranteed! We would love people to at least try the service for a month and see what a difference it will make to their lives - nothing to lose but a poop pile or two (and probably many more!).
