What inspired you to launch your own website?
I've be in the military, a bank manager, a wife & mom, a veterinary technician, and a files manager. Now, as a grandmother I wanted to enjoy more time with my kids and grandchildren. Being my own boss lets me make up the work-time hours that I want to keep, so, I can be with the family when I want to.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I just launched my site July of this year. It's a pet store online with products to spoil you and your pet.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I have products for cat and dogs only, and, that inspired my website name. Pretty original, huh?
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
My service to each individual customer is a one-on-one approach, with total commitment to each and everyone. I hope to soon put up a "bragging board" for all my customers pet pictures to be displayed.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I plan on keeping this site and someday have it passed down to my granddaughters to carry on.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Right now I'm poor. That will change as my site grows. But, I feel very successful in all the knowledge I've absorbed. This has been, and will continue to be, a fantastic journey in my life.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'd be able to pay for ads with Google and Yahoo (the big ones) to be more competitive with all the other stores online. I'd be able to pay for hidden educational costs that have to go on the back-burner for a while. I'd have someone who designed website look over my site and give me all the pointers I'd need to be the best.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
That depends on how big is big. Are we talking Petsmart big? Yea, I could keep up. Isn't that what hiring employees are for?
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Corporation and government requirements and expenses, and purchasing the website are the biggest costs so far. Not to mention buying into a companies services that aren't what they say they are. Then sometimes tweaking the software to fit my needs can be a headache, too.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is wondering if I'm setting up my website right. I wonder what else I can do for it.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I'm so new to the WWW that I really can't say right now. I'm trying new stuff every day.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
The actual creation of the site without any previous knowledge of the web, let alone the components to bring it all together, has been a lot slower than I thought it would be. Everything must come together, the site, keywords, and ads, oh yeah, and lots of luck.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Since I just came up online I can't begin to think about the ending. I'm taking each day at a time and enjoying the challenges that come my way. Also, I dream of a very bright future for my site, and strive to reach it. That's all anyone can do, don't you think?
Why pets?
I've always had a soft spot for animals, especially cats and dogs. I have had the privilege of several living with me in my life (I'm sure more to come, too). At the age of 35 I went back to school and received my Associates Degree in Science in Animal Technology. I became a licensed Veterinary Technician and worked in 2 states for some time. I just love all pet and love taking care of them. Pets have big souls in little bodies. They're all heart. They deserve the best that we can give them, even if they don't particularly care for that Tee-shirt you just put on them. They still love you.
