A good source of energy for dogs

By Fred Keebler at 11/13/07 04:50

Traditionally, dog owners were trying to replace the diet of their dog by feeding them natural ingredients. The foods today are more confined for longer-lasting, and made into a more natural form than the foods eaten in the wild.

Foods such as horse meat, hog livers, and bone meal are natural ingredients still available to dog owners. These meats are generally not considered part of the human diet. The humans diet consist of a huge selection of natural foods, all of which have been experimented as dog food.

Meat is the most used source of protein and the most natural ingredient to feed your dog. Other protein sources that are healthy for your dog are eggs, milk, and plants. They are also a huge reservoir of protein available to dog owners.

Natural foods that contain nutrients are a high energy source. Most natural foods produce more energy than non natural foods and are regularly used as a energy source. Natural foods that contain the biggest amounts of fats and carbohydrates produce the most energy source. Adding fats to a dogs diet is the main energy source. Most of the food you feed your dog comes with fat already added in, especially in chopped and ground meats.

Carbohydrates are not as concentrated of an energy source as fats, but are a bit lower in cost. They are useful in diluting the protein in that of high-meat diets or lowering the caloric density of high fat diets.

One of the most useful sources of energy for a dog is corn oil. This energy source supplies nine calories in each gram, two hundred and fifty calories in each ounce, around 124 calories in each tablespoonful, and about 62 calories in each teaspoonful. It also, furnishes almost 10 times the amount of fatty acids that are used as the only fat in a food used by a dog. It is rather cheap, and last for quite some time. Most other vegetable oils which can be used satisfactorily as an energy source for a dog are olive oil, peanut oil, safflower oil and soybean oil.
