Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our website has over 200 wonderful dog accessories. We have cooling products, sweaters, collars and leashes, life jackets, jewelry and some great dog carriers.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Our love of dogs really inspired us. We have a 10 year old chocolate lab named Nestle (just like the chocolate) who is just wonderful. He really thinks he is human!
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This site www.pupsbythechesapeakebay.com is our first and only website. We are just learning about ecommerce and have high hopes. We do have a lot to learn.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We live by the Chesapeake Bay here in Norfolk Virginia and thought Pups by the Chesapeake Bay would be a good name for the site.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We feel that our site is put together well. User friendly and lots of great pictures of the products.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Hoping that our website will produce enough income in time to replace our current incomes. Getting older and want to secure something for the future also.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Right now with our site recently published to the web we haven't had but a couple of small orders. We have spent so many hours building the site and no profit yet!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'm not sure if we would change anything with our site unless it was upon the advice of an expert. I know that we would change ourselves by quitting our present jobs and focusing our time and energy towards the web based business we started.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes. We have plans to hire people as needed.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The headaches of Search Engine Optimization. We have spent a few hundred dollars on google ads and microsoft ad center but aren't sure how long we can do that with so few orders. Really need traffic but don't know how to get it yet. Looks like I am doing E-commerce 101 class!!
What has been your biggest challenge?
We are up against our biggest challenge now. Getting traffic to our site and selling our products.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Haven't had success yet in promoting our site.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It requires much more time than expected due to lack of knowledge in e-commerce.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Our site has been published to the web for three weeks now. We hope to have it be successful and keep it as long as possible. Would love for it to be a source of income for our children years from now.
Is it possible to be successful with a website without spending thousands of dollars?
I really want to know the answer to this question!!!! Can anyone answer it for me??????
